Centrifuge : Your One-Stop Guide to Maintenance and Support
Release:WelsoDate:2025-02-13

In previous sharing, we introduced many experiments that require centrifuges. Centrifuge is a precision instrument. The correct use of it can not only ensure the accuracy of the experimental results, but also effectively avoid potential damage to the instrument and personnel. For this reason, Welso has specially sorted out the correct use steps of the centrifuge, hoping to provide reference to routine experiment.

What harm can be caused by improper use of centrifuges?

Personal injury

Due to unbalanced samples or improper rotor installation, centrifuge might vibrate violently or even burst during high-speed operation, causing equipment parts to fly out and causing direct harm to the operator. Sample leakage may cause the leakage of harmful chemicals, leading to poisoning, burns or other chemical damage. When handling biological samples, if the sample leaks due to improper operation, it may cause infection or biological hazards.

Equipment damage

Incorrect sample balancing, setting speed too high, or overloading can cause damage to the rotor or even permanent failure. The internal components of the centrifuge (such as the motor, bearings, etc.) may be damaged by abnormal vibration or improper operation, affecting the life and performance of the equipment.

Experimental failure

If the sample is not centrifuged correctly or is damaged due to improper operation, it will invalidate the experimental results and waste time and resources. Improper centrifugation conditions may lead to incomplete sample separation, affecting the accuracy and reliability of experimental data.

Below we share the correct operating steps for the Welso desktop centrifuge

Rotor and centrifuge tube inspection

●Inspection requirements: The rotor and centrifuge tube must be carefully inspected before use to ensure that there are no cracks or damage. Using a defective rotor or centrifuge tube may cause equipment damage or personal injury.

Rotor installation steps

●Align the rotor center hole with the drive shaft and install the rotor.

●Screw in the locking screw to the top of the drive shaft and tighten it with a screwdriver.

●Note: The rotor has been installed before leaving the factory. Please check whether the locking screw is tightened before use.

Filling and Replace Centrifuge tube

Filling the centrifuge tubes:

●Use a balance to ensure that the liquids in each centrifuge tube is of equal weight.

●Place the centrifuge tubes in the rotor symmetrically and in even numbers to avoid vibration and noise caused by imbalance.

Door cover

●Press the "Open/Close" button on the main page to close the door cover.

Parameter setting

●Set the rotor number, speed, time, acceleration and deceleration gears and other parameters according to the operating instructions.

Start and stop

●Start: Press the "Start" button to start the centrifuge.

●Automatic stop: After the running time countdown reaches zero, the centrifuge automatically decelerates and stops. The door cover can be opened when the speed is 0 r/min.

●Manual stop: Press the "Stop" button during operation, the centrifuge decelerates and stops, and the door cover can be opened when the speed is 0 r/min.

Centrifuge tube removal

●When the rotor stops rotating completely, open the door cover and take out the centrifuge tube.

Rotor removal steps:

●Use a screwdriver to unscrew the locking screw.

●Replace the rotor with a new one after removing it.

After the work is completed, press the power switch on the rear of the centrifuge to turn off the power and unplug the power plug.

Warnings and precautions

Warning:

Before starting the centrifuge, make sure there are no other objects in the centrifugal chamber to avoid damage to the instrument.

It is strictly forbidden to use the rotor at an over-speed to avoid damage to the instrument or personal injury.

Note:

The instrument is equipped with an unbalance protection function. If the vibration exceeds the set standard, the centrifuge will automatically stop running.

Emergency cover opening

If the door cover cannot be opened normally, you can manually operate the emergency unlocking:

Unplug the power plug of the equipment and wait for the rotor to stop completely.

Use a hexagonal wrench to insert the emergency door opening hole and push it with appropriate force to open the door cover.

Proper maintenance and care can help extend the life of your centrifuge

When installing and removing the rotor, the action should be light and quick, and ensure that it is removed vertically to avoid the rotor falling and damaging the drive shaft.

Handling after centrifugation

After daily use:

If it is not used on the same day, turn off the power and clean the centrifugal chamber.

Long-term out-of-use maintenance

Out of use for more than one month:

Take out the rotor, clean it and apply a thin layer of grease on the center hole of the rotor and the spindle of the centrifuge.

Store the rotor in a dry place to prevent moisture or corrosion.

Daily cleaning and maintenance

Cleaning steps:

Use neutral detergent to clean the centrifugal chamber.

Wipe dry with a clean cloth to keep the inside and outside of the equipment clean.

Regular inspection and maintenance

Inspection items:

Rotor mounting screws: Check regularly for looseness and tighten in time.

Rotor status: Check the rotor regularly for corrosion, cracks, etc., and replace it in time if damaged.

Rubber seal and inner cavity: Check whether the rubber seal and the inner cavity of the machine shell are worn or detached. If abnormalities are found, contact the manufacturer for processing.

It is very important to use and maintain the centrifuge correctly. We recommend that users strictly follow the above guidelines in daily operation. We provide detailed instructions for each centrifuge sold to help operators use and maintain the equipment correctly and ensure that the centrifuge is always in the best condition.
