The main components of silicate ceramics are silicon oxide, alumina, and a small amount of sodium oxide, potassium oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, iron oxide, titanium oxide, etc. Titanium will cause harm to human health due to the dissolution of metals ingested and enriched by the human body, so it is particularly important to quickly and accurately detect titanium in ceramic products or ceramic raw materials.
Welso shares with you about the digestion method of silicate ceramic products and ceramic raw materials using microwave digestion instrument.
Sample name: Silicate ceramic powder
Reagents: Nitric acid (AR), hydrofluoric acid (AR)
Instrument configuration: Welso WMD-800
Number of samples: 2
Experimental Procedure
●Accurately weigh 2 samples each of 0.15g, accuracy of mg, carefully add into the vessel bottom
and avoid any suspension on the vessel wall.
●Add 2ml of nitric acid and 6ml of hydrofluoric acid respectively, and gently shake the cup to
mix the sample and digestion reagent well.
●After the violent reaction between the sample and the digestion reagent stops, seal the vessel and load into the digestion instrument for microwave digestion.
● The digestion procedure is as follows:
Pressure(0.1MPa) | 5 | 15 | 25 |
Temperature(℃) | 120 | 180 | 200 |
Power(W) | 3000 | 3000 | 3000 |
Temperature Increasing Time(s) | 300 | 300 | 120 |
Constant Temperature Time(s) | 60 | 120 | 1200 |
●After the digestion is completed and the cooling is over, transfer digestion vessel to fume hood and wait for 10 minutes.
●Slowly release pressure of the digestion vessel in several times, take out and open the inner vessel, and place the vessels in the heating block until the solution is nearly dry.
●Transfer the solution to a volumetric flask, and rinse the inner wall of the vessel wall and sealing cap.
●When digestion solution temperature goes down to room temperature, fill the volume graduation for analysis.
Sample After Digestion:
The sample digestion solution was clear and transparent, without sediment, and the digestion effect was good.

The above procedure is for reference only.
Microwave digestion instrument is the most used in metal element analysis. During the process of sample preparation fast and uniform heating can ensure the integrity of the sample. Welso reminds everyone that when using the microwave digestion instrument, it is necessary to strictly follow the operation specifications, and the non-standard operation may cause damage to the equipment.
